Restaurant owners and their servers have a symbiotic relationship. The things that owners and managers can do to increase sales helps increase tips for the servers. The things that the servers can do to increase sales helps the restaurant owners.

Good owners/managers will teach their servers how to sell more. There are many ways to improve your servers selling abilities. One way is by having servers share their best practices.

It is common practice in manufacturing type business to track production by employee to see how each employee is doing compared to the others. Good managers use this data to help the poorer performers get better. They do this by listening to the top performers and having them share their techniques. Even if you have two great performers, they can share their "best practices" with each other and both get even better.

Fortunately, in addition to the best practices of you servers, you can also read the blogs of servers that share their best practices on the internet. I came across one such blog this week. Check out Waiter Extraordinaire: Never Give a Guest a Chance to Say No to Dessert for one example of a tip you can get on the internet. We will look for several good server blogs and add a section to the form for links to good blogs. We will also find restaurant manager blogs so you can get some best practices from other managers as well.
